about

‘Shapes: Rectangles’ is the latest in Tru Thoughts’ series of essential label compilations, compiled by A&R and label co-owner Robert Luis, showing the nous that has seen him booked to headline of the DIY strand of The Great Escape 2014 conference. This great collection of music will be out on double CD, double LP (with full 30 track download code inside) and digital, on 30th June.

2014 sees Tru Thoughts celebrating its 15th Birthday, and this compilation illuminates a hothouse of musical talent, bringing a wealth of newer signings in amongst the more established artists on the label.

Lost Midas and Werkha, two exciting young producers based on opposite sides of the Atlantic, each explore a soulful electronic path infused with eclectic influences. Harleighblu is the latest singing sensation to grace the roster, and at still only 22 years old she is picking up an amazing amount of support and collaboration requests across the World, for her mature vocal ability and charismatic live performances.

A leftfield remix of Harleighblu comes from Astro Raw, the production half of rising New York based duo Lion Babe. Hot 8 Brass Band bring boisterous brass from their Grammy nominated album; and Quantic makes a welcome appearance, with an intoxicating new track from his ‘Magnetica’ LP on which he fuses electronic production with various styles and artists from across the world in the unique way only he can. Essential hip hop cuts come from Rodney P, Ty (remixed by DJ Spinna) and Dizz1 (featuring Aloe Blacc in rare rapper mode).

The second CD raises the tempo for dancefloors of all shapes and sizes. DC Breaks on remix duties provides a drum & bass rocker, while drum & bass legend Peshay showcases his change of direction with some tropical disco; elsewhere the flavours range from the deep bass of Zed Bias, via the inventive house music of Titeknots, to FBR’s jungle spin on Wrongtom, and beyond.

The music and artists on this compilation have seen recent support across the full gamut of musical and cultural print and online press, around the World, as the profile and standing of Tru Thoughts as one of the UK’s foremost independent labels continues to rise.

An array of special TT15 Gigs, Festival Takeovers and Releases are planned throughout the rest of Tru Thoughts’ 15th Birthday year – listen out for announcements soon.
